Ein Muss für jeden Lübeck- Besucher was man auch an den Besuchermassen aus aller Herren Länder erkennt. Das Holstentor, eines der bekanntesten Wahrzeichen der Stadt Lübeck, ist ein imposantes Backsteingebäude im Stil der Spätgotik. Es wurde in den Jahren 1464 bis 1478 erbaut und diente ursprünglich als Teil der Befestigungsanlage der Stadt. Bemerkenswert sind die beiden runden Türme, die von einem Mitteltrakt verbunden werden. Dieser Mitteltrakt beherbergt heute das Stadtgeschichtliche Museum. Die Inschrift "SPQR" auf dem Holstentor bezieht sich auf den alten lateinischen Spruch "Senatus Populusque Romanus" und unterstreicht die Bedeutung der Stadt als freie Reichsstadt. Für bessere Fotos als meine sollte man eventuell früher aufstehen oder nicht gerade die Sommerferien wählen.
