I recently treated myself to a takeaway from Hayaku Sushi Cafe in Penge, and honestly, what a find! It’s tucked away from the chaos of central London, and it really does feel like a hidden gem. The sushi was excellent, easily on par with (and in some cases better than) places I’ve tried in the centre of London. I’ll be upfront: it’s not the cheapest takeaway around. But as an occasional treat, the quality more than justifies the spend. Here’s the funny part, I don’t even live that close to Penge. Collecting my order meant about an hour round trip, but the moment I sat down and tucked in, I forgot all about the journey. Every bite was worth it. If you’re after seriously good Japanese food without paying central London prices, or dealing with the central London chaos, Hayaku Sushi Cafe is well worth seeking out. For me, it’s become a go-to indulgence that I’m always happy to make the trip for.
