Was surprised to see the negative reviews of this place. I tried 2 donuts from here, jam and chocolate ring, and thought they were both very nice. I don't know if I got lucky or they've changed their recipe recently or what but most reviews on here don't match my experice at all. The coffee was alright, not the best but better than most chain coffee at least. Staff were pleasant and service was quick.

Donovan’s Bakehouse is one of the real standouts at Spitalfields Market. With so many food stalls, street vendors, and independent traders to choose from, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed—but this stall pulls you in straight away with the sight (and smell) of fresh pastries and the promise of genuinely good coffee. It’s not just another market stop, it feels like a proper destination for anyone who appreciates quality. The coffee here is excellent—smooth, rich, and clearly made with good beans and skill. It’s the kind of coffee that can hold its own against a proper café, which is impressive for a market stall. As for the pastries, they’re dangerously tempting. This isn’t the place you come if you’re determined to stick to your diet, because the display alone will test your willpower. We tried the hazelnut donut and the raspberry-filled donut, and both were outstanding. Light, airy dough, generous fillings, and a balance of sweetness that keeps you coming back for another bite. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, adding to the experience rather than rushing it. Prices are reasonable for central London, especially considering the quality. Overall, Donovan’s Bakehouse is a gem among the many choices at Spitalfields, and definitely worth a visit.
