This is one of the original Ocakbasi restaurants in north London- I’ve been here every now and again for the last 25-35 years, and it has barely changed a bit. And that’s good. The food is simple, with few frills. The grill is central to the layout (classic Ocakbasi) and means you can see your food being cooked as you make your way through your starter. Go for lunch and if you stay long enough you’ll see them prepping the aubergines for the evening’s meals, grilling them on the embers of the charcoal they just used to prepare your food. I love it here, more for the nostalgia than anything else. Prices are average, portions too.

Best value, best taste, nicest staff. Along this entire street I rate this above the rest, yes including the Ocakbasi's towards Newington Green.
