We came here for a Sunday roast, which was good. Fast service. Highlight was the truffled cauliflower cheese, which was a separate side but is worth paying for — rich and cheesy with an enjoyable breadcrumb topping. The potatoes had a very interesting and pleasant nutty taste — presumably roasted in peanut oil? — although if I were in charge of the kitchen, I’d suggest cutting them a bit smaller, maybe just once more in half, to get a better ratio of crispy peanut coating to potato interior. Yorkshires, cabbage, gravy all very good. Beef was tasty but a bit tough. HOWEVER: the main notable detraction was the flies. Now obviously this will only be relevant if you’re eating on the terrace on a hot day (recommended), but as soon as our food arrived we were inundated with bluebottles. To pub management: please consider investing in a citronella candle per outdoor table on hot days! We’ve used them in the past and they work very well. Overall, a very nice roast and pub, and we would definitely recommend!
