Für unseren 'Afternoon Tea' nach einem Einkaufsbummel in Mayfair & St. James hatte ich mir dieses geradezu legendäre Art-Déco Hotel ausgesucht, das 1927 als 'Park Lane Hotel' seine Pforten geöffnet hatte. Es wurde vom Architekten Charles W. Stephens entworfen, der bereits die Nobelkaufhäuser Harrods sowie Harvey Nichols konzipiert hatte, und von 'Adie, Button and Partners' (nach dem Ableben Stephens) fertiggestellt. Das Grandhotel gilt seit jeher als Inbegriff der 'Roaring Twenties' und wenn man als Gast einen Blick in das fantastisch dekorierte Foyer des Festsaals wirft, weiss man auch ad hoc warum. Der im stilistisch passenden Palm Court servierte 'High Tea' mit all seinen leckeren Gängen entpuppte sich als gut gewählt, um dieses Kleinod von Hotel unter die Lupe zu nehmen - auch wenn der bestellte Pommery zunächst leicht abgestanden serviert wurde und der Tee viel zu schwach portioniert war. Ansonsten schmeckten die Sandwiches & Cakes köstlich, während die zierlichen Scones im Baumwollbeutel lange duftig und warm blieben. Parallel dazu begann das Serviceteam anfänglich etwas träge, lief aber später, unter der Obhut einer vitalen Dame, zu deutlich besserer Form auf. So bleibt mir der entspannte Besuch in feiner Erinnerung. 🥂☕️🍰

Came here for the Christmas themed afternoon tea. There were four of us. The service was friendly but not as attentive as we would have hoped, we didn't get the additional orders we requested and it took ages for them to get our coats. The food was enjoyable.
