Marksman — Elevated British Fare in a Stylish East End Setting Located on Hackney Road, Marksman is a modern British gastropub that’s earned its stripes — and a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand — for serving thoughtful, seasonal dishes in a beautifully restored Victorian pub. It’s elegant without being fussy, and casual without cutting corners. Food Highlights: Brown butter & honey tart — iconic, rich, and worth the visit alone Beef & barley bun — soft, savoury, and deeply satisfying Cuttlefish stew and ox cheek pie — bold, slow-cooked flavours with finesse Sunday roasts — generous, well-balanced, and beautifully plated Vegetarian options are available but limited — the menu leans hearty and meaty Drinks & Setting: Excellent wine list with natural and classic choices Local beers and well-made cocktails Interiors blend wood-panelled pub charm with minimalist design — warm, stylish, and intimate Upstairs dining room offers a quieter, more refined experience Service & Vibe: Friendly and professional staff, though service can feel brisk during busy hours Crowd is a mix of foodies, locals, and East London creatives Booking ahead is recommended — especially for weekends and roasts

I rarely link pub food with good food, but Marksman Hackney delivered a solid night. The curried lamb bun was the standout, and the chicken pie nailed comfort whist the rib was average and dessert felt ready for an upgrade. The cosy pub vibe and warm crowd made it a great place to linger with friends.
