🚇Kensal Rise 🍺 £5.00 Guinness Maggie’s Bar is located in Kensal Rise, northwest London. The nearest station is Kensal Rise on the Mildmay Line. This pub opened its doors in 1988 in what was previously a pizza takeaway. It is named after Maggie Hammill, who hails from Ireland and established the pub at a time when Kensal Rise was a working-class area with a large Irish population. This is a traditionally decorated pub with a down-to-earth, old-school Irish feel. The servery is ornate and centrally located, stretching a fair way down the bar. The decor features a boarded floor, walls painted in two shades of green, plenty of seating, some stained glass partitions and doors, a dartboard, and a few large TV screens. At the back of the pub is a small terrace for smoking. The beer line-up was a straight-up, no-nonsense selection of mainstream keg beers. As this is an Irish boozer, I had to try the Guinness. My pint was superb—up there with the best of them—and was reasonably priced at a fiver. This is a wet-led pub, so no food is served except on St Patrick’s Day, when there’s rakes of stew on offer. I arrived at 8:30 p.m. on a warm Saturday evening in May. The pub was fairly busy with a local crowd, most of whom were Irish punters. The atmosphere was upbeat, as the Eurovision was on and there was plenty of craic while performances were judged and a bit of mickey-taking ensued. The service was excellent—the lady on duty was warm, welcoming, and friendly. Visiting this old-school Irish pub was an absolute joy—I loved everything about it. The no-frills decor, the welcoming and friendly locals, the sense of community spirit, the top-drawer and reasonably priced Guinness, and the hospitable service all stood out. There aren’t many pubs like this left in London—get this one on your must-visit list. 📅 17th May 2025 If you want to see all my pub reviews in one place, head to @londonpubmap on Instagram. 🍻
