The Isle of Dogs is a historic area in East London, bounded on three sides by a large loop in the River Thames, opposite Greenwich. Today it’s part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and home to Canary Wharf, one of London’s main financial districts—but its history stretches back centuries. In medieval times, the Isle of Dogs was mostly marshland and pasture, prone to flooding. It was used for grazing animals and growing hay. • The name’s origin is uncertain. Theories suggest it may come from: • Royal kennels kept there for Edward III or Henry VIII. • The Dutch engineers (“dykes” → “dogs”) who drained the marshes. • A corruption of “Isle of Ducks,” since wildfowl were plentiful.

Lugar interesante y con un buen paseo.
