This is one of a trio of memorials to the Crimean War (1853-56) situated at Waterloo Place. The statue of reformer and founder of modern nursing Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) and is the work of sculptor A.G. Walker and was installed at this location in 1915 next to the moment to her friend Sidney Herbert. What you see is a bronze of Nightingale in garment holding a oil lamp being used for her to do nightly rounds during the war era. She stands upon a granite pedestal with bas reliefs. The monument is similar to peer statue of Sidney Herbert and well worth viewing for a couple minutes if passing through Waterloo Place.
