We made a reservation online at Papillon for some dinner before a show at the Philharmonic Hall. On arrival, we were really impressed with how the restaurant looked, both the exterior and the interior decor were lovely and gave a great first impression. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in and then directed to a colleague who helped seat us. At first, we were a little surprised by how quiet it was, but about 20 minutes later the place was completely full, and we were very glad we had made a reservation. Once seated, we were warmly welcomed by one team member who brought us some water, and then another member of staff came over to take our drinks order and help with our food choices. We decided to start by sharing the toasted focaccia with oil. It was nice, although we found the balsamic vinegar a touch mild for our taste. Shortly after finishing our starter, our main courses arrived and looked great. We had the sirloin steak and the fish and chips. Both were fine, the fish itself was tasty but the batter was not quite to our liking, while the steak was good, though the chips were just okay. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. The service was excellent at the start, but as the restaurant got busier it did feel a little stretched, which is understandable given how busy it became. I would recommend visiting again, especially as there were other tempting dishes on the menu. The restaurant is in a great location close to the city centre, though I would suggest going at a quieter time to really enjoy the full level of service they can provide.

Ate here at the weekend got the fish and chips and was surprised by how bad the chips was. Either frozen or reheated. How hard is it to make fresh chips? Ruined the meal for me as the plate was 90% chips
