Please leave that staircase alone. It has stood there for many years without anyone noticing it. Half a century ago, I used to climb it every day on my way to school, not to learn, but so that those wicked people who claimed to be teachers could wash their ills against my face. Please leave that ladder alone. Don't paint anything else. Leave the memory alone. Thank you. (Or rather paint, write, until we manage to forget all that hell)
