The Zhitiy Market is one of the oldest markets in Kiev. Its location and name date back to the times of Kievan Rus. Since the 15th century, it has been called the city's main trading center. Today, several old buildings of the Zhitiy Market have remained untouched, along with newer ones built around half a century ago. The locals refer to them as a little island of Soviet post-realism. On the first floor of the building, traders sell meat, dairy products, homemade preserves, vegetables, and other locally produced goods. On the second floor, one can buy clothing, wedding attire, and building materials.
