Domestica is undeniably a beautiful and elegant spot in Ghent, with a refined atmosphere that sets high expectations. The staff were kind and welcoming, and the plating of the dishes was visually impressive — every plate looked like a work of art. However, the overall dining experience didn’t fully live up to the setting. Service, while polite, was distracted at times — when ordering drinks and food, the staff seemed to be looking elsewhere, giving the impression that their attention was divided. We were encouraged to go for the set menu, which, unfortunately, turned out to be a mistake. The dishes, although beautifully presented, lacked depth and flavor. The menu felt bland and uninspired, leaving me regretting not choosing à la carte. The wine list was also underwhelming. For a place with such an upscale ambiance, the selection of red wines was limited, especially disappointing was the absence of strong Portuguese options from the Douro or Alentejo regions. In short: a visually stunning restaurant with friendly staff, but the culinary experience needs more soul and attention to match the aesthetics.
