Nurnberg is probably one of my favourite cities in the world and have been there 5 times in the last 7 years. Can’t wait to go again in February as part of my ski/trade show/holiday trip. Have a friend that has worked the trade shows with me and he is from Nurnberg and one night he decided to take me “off the beaten path” to show me some really cool places in Old Nurnberg. The Gin & Julep Bar is so far off the beaten path, that if you don’t have a friend take you there, you’ll never find it. Think Speakeasy from days long gone. It’s on a non descript street with zero businesses on it. Keep your eyes open or you wont’ find it. You get there and there is a small doorway, red light and phone in front of the locked entrance. You pick up the phone, and be patient….someone may or may not come to the door and let you in. I got in, my buddy had to go, and I got seated at the bar. Met the owner/bar keep and had a fabulous evening. I think the drink menu only has 10 or so drinks on it, but if he knows it, he will make it, and I doubt there is much that he doesn’t know how to make. Ordered my favourite cocktail, an Old Cuban and watched as he carefully prepared it. Smashing the mint was a game changer and will never muddle another bunch of mint leaves as long as I live. Truly a must visit kind of place but its always jammed with the locals that love this place so take that into consideration. Probably one of the coolest little bars I’ve ever been in…..and I’ve been in lot of cool bars.

Eine der besten, wenn nicht sogar DIE beste Bar in Nürnberg! Wer hier schlecht bewertet, hat wohl das Konzept von Speakeasy-Bars nicht verstanden. Die Idee mit dem Telefon ist super originell und gehört nun mal zur Inszenierung und Atmosphäre der Bar dazu, um ein bisschen Geschichte und Tradition zu wahren. Ich kann verstehen, wenn Leute reinplatzen, weil sie das Schild übersehen, aber ich glaube das wir Menschen uns einfach zu sehr an die schnelllebige Welt gewöhnt haben und dementsprechend die Aufmerksamkeit sehr gering ist - aber das ist ein anderes Thema! 😉 Sich bereits beim eintreten die Zeit zu nehmen, ist ein super Konzept um dem Kunden die Möglichkeit zu geben die Kulisse und die Atmosphäre der Bar auf sich wirken zu lassen. Ich hatte keinesfalls den Eindruck überrannt zu werden. Und gleichzeitig wurden wir aber nicht, wie im Großteil der Gastronomie üblich, einfach sitzengelassen. Das Erklären der Barkultur, der Getränke und des Werdegangs des Barkeepers gibt einem die Möglichkeit etwas mehr vom Barkonzept zu verstehen und sich gesonnen auf die Drinks einzulassen. Und wenn wir schon bei den Drinks angekommen sind: phänomenal! Wirklich, es passt einfach alles! Die Drinks sind wahnsinnig gut gemixt, man merkt, dass diese Getränke wirklich eine Kunst für sich sind. Wenn man sich einfach die Zeit nimmt das Getränk und die Räumlichkeit auf sich wirken zu lassen, dann kommt man zur Ruhe und fängt an zu genießen. Chapeau an euch Jungs! Ihr habt wirklich etwas kreiert, was einzigartig in Nürnberg ist und ein Ambiente geschaffen, was super herzlich ist und einlädt. Dankeschön! 🙏🏼

I love everything here! The drinks are amazing — a bit on the smaller side, but as long as they taste good, I’m totally fine with that. The bartender was super friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain the concept of the bar and the historical background of the drinks. Definitely coming back!
