Rancid beer (eventually) served from a bar which is impossible to tell is open or not, even though the staff are milling around upstairs generally ignoring people - ditched that pint after a couple of sips. Weird policy from the security staff around allowing men (i.e me and at least two others I saw) to just go up and use the toilet, but then questioning and preventing women from entering the upstairs if they said they wanted to use the toilet. I feel bad for the food stalls up there as the attitude of the general staff and security make it unappealing (also explains why it was completely empty on a Friday night). Forget The Upper Place and spend your time and money with any of the many amazing and friendly eateries in the downstairs section of the Nag’s Head market that actually has an atmosphere!
