🚇 Bermondsey 🍺 £4.50 Fosters ❤️ A welcoming community boozer. The Ship Aground is located in the Dockhead area of Bermondsey which was once the home of Jacob's biscuits. The nearest Tube is Bermondsey which is a ten minute walk. This pub dates back to the late 18th century but has been rebuilt at some point, probably in the early 20th century. If you look towards the top left of the pub you can see a Courage cockerel sitting proudly on his perch. This is a small but perfectly formed one bar boozer. The decor here is traditional and comprises of period brown lacquered wood, black skirting and pale painted walls. The walls are covered with Guinness signs and also nautical themed scenes. The seating is traditional with low level tables and chairs, some plum velour banquettes and stools around the servery. The servery is a good size in comparison to the bar, above the servery you’ll find a few Millwall tickets tucked in to the bulkhead. Other features include model ships above the back bar and not forgetting the fish tank in the corner of the bar. The beer choice was a straight up no nonsense affair with familiar mainstream beers. I decided on a pint of Fosters, my pint was well kept, hit the spot and cost less than a fiver. No food is served here, although there are plenty of bar snacks if you feel a bit peckish. I arrived around 2pm on a sunny July afternoon. The pub was fairly busy with a friendly local crowd. This pub loves its sport, there were a few screens showing the horse racing and F1 qualifying. The atmosphere was relaxed and calm, the pub had a nice welcoming feel. I was served by a lovely Lady who was chatting to locals sat around the bar, she was interrupted a few times by the pub dog Norman, he was a big fella that loves a bit of attention. During the month the pub hosts a Pub Quiz if you want to test your noodle. @theshipaground_ is yet another superb community boozer that is based in Bermondsey. This a friendly locals pub with reasonably priced beer. You’ll receive a warm welcome and be well looked after. Definitely worth a visit. 🍻 ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 29.07.23
