Staff members are very kind and helpful, the menu included tens of options which I found fascinating given the “cafe” in the name. It’s a lowkey good place to rest, grab a good coffee and enjoy the cheerfulness of people in rose street. Prices are fine too, just the normal range.

We were passing through Edinburgh for a day, and planned to have a late breakfast at Rose St Cafe, as the menu looked great and the reviews were good. Overall we were a bit disappointed. The service and general vibe of the cafe were the high points. In the centre of Edinburgh £15 for the big breakfast seemed about what you'd expect, but for £15 I expected good quality ingredients. However, the quality wasn't there. The sausages appeared to be inexpensive mass produced low pork % types, the eggs were just ok. The bacon was tasty enough , but came in chunks rather than coherent rashers. The haggis and black pudding were on the salty side. The toast was bog standard white loaf. It wasn't awful, it was just ok. The other thing is that in a Full Scottish/English/Irish breakfast I expect a mug of tea or coffee to be included. What do the ingredients cost.. 10p? 20p? To charge £15 for the breakfast and then another £3 or so for tea (£6 for a pot for two) is a bit grasping. Maybe it's normal in the centre of Edinburgh, but it definitely isn't in the centre of London. Overall, it was just ok. If I had been served this in a local cafe for £7.50 (with tea included) I'd have been fine with it. But it wasn't, including tea it was £18, and for that, it really just needs to be better.
