Lukiškių aikštė, ou place Lukiškės, est la plus grande place publique de Vilnius. Située sur l’avenue Gediminas, elle est entourée de bâtiments officiels, d’églises et d’universités. C’est un espace ouvert de plus de 4 hectares, à la fois central et très fréquenté par les habitants comme par les visiteurs. Son histoire est marquée par des épisodes lourds : au XIXe siècle, la place fut le théâtre d’exécutions politiques sous l’Empire russe. Plus tard, durant l’ère soviétique, elle devint la “Place Lénine”, avec une imposante statue du dirigeant. Celle-ci a été retirée en 1991, après l’indépendance de la Lituanie. Aujourd’hui, la place a complètement changé. Rénovée en 2017, elle est devenue un espace vert moderne, avec des sentiers, des bancs, des arbres, une fontaine et une aire de jeux. On y organise des concerts, des marchés, des événements culturels. L’endroit est vivant et apaisant, loin de son passé sombre. J’aime cette place pour son équilibre : c’est un lieu où l’histoire n’est pas oubliée, mais où la vie continue, dans un cadre agréable. Elle reflète bien le visage de Vilnius moderne : libre, accueillante et en mouvement.
