Nicolas Church is the first Christian temple built on the territory of modern Lithuania and is under special protection today. Initially, in the 14th century, the church had a very ordinary appearance and did not particularly stand out from other buildings in the city. However, in the 16th century, the Lithuanian Prince Konstantin Ostrogsky began a complete restoration, which resulted in the construction of a refined Gothic church. After fierce battles with invaders, the church was reconstructed using characteristic elements of the Baroque style - such diversity is quite typical for European architecture.

The entire church, especially the bell tower, is adorned with frescoes and icons of Nicholas the Wonderworker - he has always been considered the patron saint of Vilnius, therefore many churches in the city are named after him.

Świątynia zbudowana została w 1514 roku początkowo w stylu gotyckim (resztki sklepienia kryształowego można obejrzeć w prezbiterium). Podobnie jak cerkiew św. Paraskewy przekazana została unitom w roku 1609. Po pożarach w połowie XVIII wieku cerkiew odbudowano w stylu rokokowym. W roku 1827 przeszła w ręce kościoła prawosławnego. W 1865 roku została ponownie przebudowana i uzyskała obecny wygląd. Dobudowano do niej wtedy kaplicę, na której do dziś wisi sławiąca namiestnika Michała Murawjowa ps. Wieszatiel - tablica.
