La Fenice Opera House was built on the site where the burnt-down San Benedetto Theatre once stood. The architect faced significant challenges fitting the new building into a very narrow space, surrounded by canals on three sides. The theatre's name reflects the remarkable fate of the building, which, like the mythical Phoenix bird, has risen from the ashes time and again. The opera opened at the end of the 17th century and has since survived a series of fires. With state support, the theatre was reconstructed and reopened in 2003. An amusing feature of this building is the complete absence of a cloakroom, making it a "theatre that doesn't start with a coat rack." Some of the greatest composers, such as Verdi, Bellini, Rossini, and Stravinsky, were associated with the stage of this opera house. By the way, it's not necessary to buy a ticket to a performance to visit, as day tours are conducted in the theatre.
