Il Serchio, per lunghezza il terzo fiume toscano, nasce dal Monte Sillano e dopo aver percorso la Garfagnana e bagnato Lucca, sfocia in mare in questo punto. È un posto molto suggestivo che può essere raggiunto per due motivi. Il primo è per fare un bel percorso escursionistico fra dune, fiume e mare. Gli ambienti dunali sabbiosi sono ben conservati e piacevolissimi da osservare e percorrere. Oppure ci si può andare per trascorrere una giornata al mare. In questo secondo caso, va tenuto presente che non ci sono servizi di alcun genere, che la vicinanza del fiume può non essere gradita a tutti, che il parcheggio dista diverse centinaia di metri e che è raggiungibile solo la sponda destra del fiume (a meno che non si possa disporre di una barca). Dal punto di vista storico, si segnala la presenza della ex Casa degli incursori della Marina Militare, ora purtroppo in stato di abbandono. Personalmente, consiglierei di raggiungere il posto per una escursione nell'ambiente dunale, per poi eventualmente rinfrescarsi con una nuotata.
