A great pub by the riverside

It was right,but we had a misunderstanding with the service about the music: for us it was right,for them too loud. At the end we got a deal with them ,but the situation was a bit uncomfortable.

I'd expected a top notch experience based on reviews and comments but to be honest the Sunday Roast, which took an hour to come, was sparce and to my mind used Aunt Bessie toasties (all three of them that was presented with my thinly sliced beef, green beans and withered parsnips (my partner suggested all of these offerings were also from a supermarket frozen bag rather than a local market garden)...the bar staff on Sunday lunchtime were as engaged as a toilet with a broken lock (of which there was one in the four mixed gender garden toilets), they were there but not particularly interested - the young lady with the butterfly lashes was clearly wishing she was doing anything other than pouring pints. There was one member of staff who seemed to be doing a bit of everything - but she wasn't British and probably not a slumming it teenage student... We won't be rushing back (though we did come back for some Gypsy Jazz after 19:00 having spent the afternoon listening to bluesy rock in Iffley)...the trio didn't feature any violin, and minimal passion - maybe there's a different class of gypsy that side of the river?
