A London gem. Not many of these traditional London pubs around anymore so it’s great to see it live n kicking which it was when I visited on a Friday evening after work. The ambience is just what you would want and expect from a traditional pub. They sell Blue Moon which I haven’t seen a lot of recently so that’s a winner for me too. Would like to see a few more craft ales though I imagine the reason for not is to keep prices down and not wanting to fleece the customers rotten (as is often the case when serving the trendy over inflated london brewery beers).

At first I didn't like it at all, but the place quickly grows on you. I'll make sure to go back here. The music is 80's beginning 90's, not too loud though.

🚇 Goodge Street 🍺 £7.00 Guinness This pub is located on the corner of New Cavendish Street and Hanson Street, in the backstreets of Fitzrovia in central London. The nearest Tube station is Goodge Street on the Northern Line. The Ship is a Grade II listed pub that was originally licensed in 1772 as The Centurion. It was renamed The Ship around 1815 and rebuilt in 1887. I absolutely love the architecture of this pub as it feels very grand but at the same time it looks a little rough around the edges. This cosy, one-bar pub has a characterful, old-school interior. The servery is centre left and still features the original glass sandwich cabinet. The decor includes red velour banquettes, copper-topped tables, brewing memorabilia—especially Bass and Wenlock—brass lanterns, copper pots, a ship’s wheel, and the Holy Grail: a proper pub carpet. Upstairs, the function room mirrors the traditional style and includes its own private bar. The beer selection is very good, offering a diverse mix of familiar favourites, premium beers and cask ale. I opted for a Guinness—my pint was tip-top, price point reflected central London prices. This is a wet-led pub, so it doesn’t serve food, but there are plenty of Taytos to tide you over. I arrived just after 4 p.m. on a bright Thursday afternoon in April. I was meeting Isaac, who runs one of my favourite Instagram accounts, @caffs_not_cafes. We chatted about the rising popularity of pubs like Skehan’s, The Olde Apple Tree, and The Army and Navy, and enjoyed a few pints of the black stuff in this lovely pub setting. Soon after our first pint, the place filled with local office workers and was packed in no time. Service was first-class—the Guv’nor on duty was friendly and personable. This pub is London pub royalty and one of my favourite places to enjoy a pint in central London. Majestic architecture, a time-capsule interior, a great selection of booze, and a welcoming Guv’nor—this is a must-visit London pub.
