Aquesta és una església d’orígens gòtics, construïda entre els segles XIV i XV, formada per una nau amb un absis poligonal de cinc costats. L’església de Santa Susanna del Mercadal de Girona va ser reformada entre el 1901 i el 1923. Aquesta reforma, per això, no va durar gaire, ja que el 1936, en plena Guerra Civil, es va enderrocar gairebé tota. Un cop acabada la Guerra Civil, el 1940 es va reconstruir aquesta església. Des d’aquell moment, l’església de Santa Susanna del Mercadal de Girona ha estat reformada en diferents ocasions
