The Great Synagogue, or as it is also commonly called, the Dohány Street Synagogue, is the second largest Jewish sanctuary in the world. It is located in the Jewish quarter of Pest and has been completely reconstructed and redesigned multiple times since its foundation.

The Great Synagogue is not without reason called a "treasury" and the guardian of traditions of a long-persecuted people. The two-story temple with three separate naves made of red and white brick is decorated with ceramics, a carved cornice, and numerous rose windows. The synagogue can accommodate 3,000 people at once, every service is accompanied by the sound of a huge organ, and adjoining the building is an operational Jewish Museum.
