The unusual appearance, clearly reminiscent of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, is the first thing that catches the eye when looking at the Jerusalem Church. Preserving its natural Gothic interior, the church has become a special sanctuary in Bruges, absorbing the sanctity of distant places and the inaccessibility of European holy sites.

The Jerusalem Church is still operational, and tourists can attend one of the Sunday or Saturday masses. The building has a small nave and a rather spacious choir. Beneath the latter lies a replica of the Tomb of Jesus Christ, and nearby in a separate tomb rests the ashes of the church's founding family, the Adorns.
