Beckford Tower is on the edge of the city so quite out the way but definitely worth a visit. Built by William Beckford as part of his landscape gardens to keep part of his collection of art. It is set in a beautiful location overlooking magnificent countryside. Indeed from the top we were able to see the White House at Roundway Hill Devizes which was amazing. We had booked the lantern tour as well as standard access which allowed us a guided tour right up in the top of the lantern. The gentleman who was our guide was friendly and informative. The architecture of the tower is spectacular especially the winding staircase to the top. It was good to be able to see some of the architectural details and restoration. If you decide to go up to the lantern remember there are alot of steps! The Lansdown Cemetery has taken over part of the original landscaped gardens, and William Beckford was the first burial in the new cemetery which was established after his death, the cemetery is interesting in itself and if you follow the main path it leads to the Grotto. We were delighted to see a coffee van by the Grotto entrance which was delightful 😊
