Koleves restaurant is a true gem of Budapest, which might seem like an unremarkable trifle at first glance. The thing is, this establishment is a quintessential example of "ruin bars," where absolutely no attention is paid to the interior.

Surprisingly, Koleves is located in a building that used to be a meatpacking plant and soon became one of the most popular informal spots in the capital. Colorful tables and chairs are placed under the open sky during the summer, as is the bar counter with a straw roof. Inside, the restaurant resembles a large kitchen, cluttered with bright pots and dining utensils, and everywhere you can hear lively conversations. The menu features dishes from both European and Hungarian cuisines.

Really nice traditional fusion restaurant. The staff is very very kind and helpful. Contrary to many Budapest restaurants this didn’t feel too touristy.
