About

Nydeggkirche in Bern is a striking example of Gothic and Gothic Revival architecture, with its 42-meter height providing a commanding presence over the cityscape. Here, the deep and richly colored roof and the dramatic, slender spire with its soft green hue paint a picture of antiquity meeting artistry. Originally constructed in the 1340s, the church was built on the site of an old fortress, symbolizing Bern's transformation over the centuries. Visitors are often captivated by the ornate stained glass windows that bathe the sanctuary in a spectrum of colors and the intricate bronze reliefs that adorn the entrance, telling stories of old. After significant renovations in the early 1950s, the church remains a vibrant part of Bern's history.

Inside, the clock tower and the bronze door - featuring a bear monument dedicated to Duke Zähringen - are crowd favorites, drawing both locals and tourists. Nydeggkirche not only offers a glimpse into the city's storied past but also provides stunning views of the old town and the Aare River. Easily reachable by bus line 12, or a pleasant 20-25 minute walk from the Main Train Station, this 4.4-star rated attraction is a must-visit for those exploring Bern.
