Mastvest is het enige vestingwater dat is overgebleven van een militaire verdedigingsgordel die vroeger de kern van Antwerpen stad omsloot.De stad was vroeger helemaal afgesloten, langs de éne zijde door de Schelde, langs de andere door een aantal vestigingen. Je kon de stad binnenrijden langs een vijf- of zestal wegen die werden bewaakt door een kazerne. De kazernes werden bewaakt door een vest (gracht). Aan de vorm van de Mastvest kan je zien dat deze iets moest beschermen. In de winkelhaak van de vest vind je nu jeugdherberg ‘Op Sinjoorke’. Over de vest liggen twee bruggen, ze werden geplaatst met de wereldtentoonstelling van Antwerpen in 1930.Er zijn veel grasvelden om te ontspannen en als je door het park wandelt, kan je veel prachtige bomen bewonderen.
