We stayed at Lil’s on the Waterfront mainly for the great location — and in that regard, it really delivers. It’s right by the river, just a minute’s walk from the cruise, and close to York Dungeon and the theatre. Perfect for sightseeing. However, we didn’t realise we had booked during the night race event, and the experience was a bit overwhelming. The room itself is very basic, which would have been fine if it had been quieter. Because it’s summer, we needed to open the window but that meant dealing with constant noise from early morning to late at night. From 10am to 11pm, crowds and outdoor seating make it very loud until 3 am and then around 4am the seagulls take over. If you’re a light sleeper or looking for a peaceful stay, this might not be the best choice during busy periods. But for location and convenience, it’s hard to beat. Oh overnight parking near by is £21 a night
