I wanted to like CHIKO but the food was just too sweet for me, and there was too wide a gap between what I read on the menu and what I got. For example, the sichuan cucumbers were a little earthy/musky which I didn’t dislike but wasn’t exactly what I expected. Tasted more like something from xinjiang? And the soy glazed brisket was so sweet and saucy. Even if it was my thing (it wasn’t), “Texas BBQ” would not be how I’d have described it, especially since classic Texas BBQ is the essentially the only famous BBQ style that emphasizes no-sauce brisket. The cumin lamb stir fry was all right. The umami egg was good - I really liked the texture of the little trout roe. There are other items on the menu that look interesting but I’m hesitant to go back because I have no idea what the dishes actually are versus what is printed in the text.

SOOOO good! The food is incredibly flavorful and the portions are very generous. Perfect for take out or a causal dine in experience with a glass of wine or their new cocktail menu. It’s small so don’t expect anything fancy but the food makes up for the casual experience on Barracks row. It’s been a solid go to for years and just keeps getting better. The shrimp dumplings, the peanut noodles and the brisket anre always a solid and their seasonal duck fried rice is to die for. Staff is super friendly too!!

I love Chiko soooo much, but I think they need to start being more careful about cross contamination with their cooking implements. Last week I had some of those chocolate peanut butter pops and they had a STRONG garlic flavor, and this week I had the coconut custard and kept getting a hint of jalapeno
