About

Although Rene restaurant is located right in the heart of Vilnius, its visitors are mainly locals and city guests who come on recommendation. The place, with white walls and waiters in aprons, is famous for its sense of humor, which can be seen by looking through the restaurant's menu.

One of the signature dishes is "Mussels in a Pot," which consists of a whole pot of freshly prepared seafood. The establishment itself is hidden in courtyards, surprises with its rather simple interior, and democratic prices.

We were very excited to try this after the tragic closing of Rene, I’m very happy to see a fun new rendition of the Belgian restaurant. The menu is quite similar, which I like, and of course I was mostly anticipating the mussels. I thought that they were alright, not as good as I remember them being. We ordered the Thai ones, but a complaint heard around the table was that the mussel dishes were not salty enough. The sauce was a little too creamy without enough thai spices or salt. The mussels were good, albeit slightly overcooked. Most of them were pretty big, and it was a well sufficient portion size. The fries were thick and tasty. The duck dish was good, but mostly the root vegetables and sauces, the meat was not very remarkable. A little overcooked and tough. I am likely to come back as I often crave mussels, and this is in a very convenient location, and very pretty too. The beer selection was excellent and the service splendid. However, I hope they take note of some slight potential improvements.
