Worth a visit because it's old... Historic... And dare I say? FREE! Lovely old merchants house, art works. With a good tea rooms and gardens. Overlooking the nicer part of the Mersey. Light lunches, cakes and refreshments available. The onsite staff were happy to answer any questions. Enjoyed our visit.

An oasis of peace.b"Ever seen wall paper from a long gone era of distinction and that is hasn't been changed since it was put on the walls" Feast your eyes and wait no longer. Small disabled/parking spaces at the front and a free entry to the museum. At the end of the visit the veranda where once the front entrance used to be provided a welcome moment to sit relax and eat our lunch. Not brought your lunch? Not a problem as there is a café on site. Very accessible and over two floors with a lift. Helpful kind and knowledgeable staff. Accessible toilets and spacious enough environment for people who might need a little extra space when moving around. There is a dedicated memorial garden to the Hillsborough disaster and local people who tragically lost their lives are named on a statue of remembrance. A note on the gate asking for respectful use of this area & I personally wouldn't take a dog in there as just beyond is a spacious parklands/gardens for people who wish to exercise their pets. In one of the rooms I got a internal message, which I occasionally do get & it went very simply "I don't belong" this came from observing one of the many beautiful paintings as part of the collection on display. A rather pale almost blueish looking lady and her portrait spoke to me. After carefully listening to the guide it appears that the painter felt somewhat inferior when he compared his painting skills with those other famous artists. I had no idea about the facts but quite possibly explained the message I received. A wonderful warm atmosphere and we shall return in the near future. Highly recommended.
