ドロットニングホルム宮殿の広大な庭園に、ひっそりと佇むグスタビアン調の劇場。ルヴィサ・ウルリカ女王によって1766年に建てられ、その息子のグスタフ3世の時代に黄金期を迎えたという歴史に興味を惹かれました。グスタフ3世が暗殺された後、劇場は忘れ去られていたそうですが、1922年に再開され、18世紀当時の装置がそのまま使われているという、世界でも類を見ないユニークな劇場です。ガイドツアーでしか内部を見学できませんが、その価値は十分にありました。舞台の奥行きは約20mもあり、30ものシーンをわずか10秒で転換できるほどの性能を持っていたと知り、当時の技術力の高さに驚かされました。ここではヘンデルやグルック、モーツァルトなどの演目が上演されているそうです。18世紀のイタリアやフランスのオペラやバレエも公演されていると聞き、タイムスリップしたような気分を味わえました。ガイドツアーは季節によって時間が異なりますが、ストックホルム・パスがあれば入場できるので、ぜひ訪れてみてください。
