Standing at the top, looking down the steep, narrow flight of approximately 75-97 steps that Father Karras plunged down, you instantly feel a chill. The steps themselves are ordinary concrete and stone, but their cinematic history injects them with a palpable, unsettling aura. Located at the corner of Prospect St NW and 36th St NW, the area feels like classic, historic Georgetown. The nearby "Exorcist House" adds to the experience, though a plaque at the bottom is the only official marker. It's cool to think of the filming history, including the rubber padding used for the famous movie. They are just a steep flight of stairs connecting Prospect St down to M St, so the "attraction" is very brief. It's perfect for a quick photo op and a dose of movie nostalgia, but it's not a place to linger. Personal Take: If you love The Exorcist, this is a pilgrimage you have to make.
