This historical monument stands in front of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. The 14-meter-high marble column was originally from the Basilica of Maxentius and was set up in its current location in 1614 at the behest of Pope Paul V. It is crowned with a bronze statue of the Virgin and Child, created by Guillaume Berthélot and Orazio Censore.
