I stumbled across The Counter Coffee and Lounge inside the Club Quarters Hotel in London City and I’m really glad I did. It is a small hotel lobby coffee and bar spot in collaboration with Origin Coffee, and the vibe is modern, chic and very comfortable. There are different types of seating depending on what you need, from communal tables to laptop friendly spots, booths for groups and regular tables. What really stood out to me was the staff. Honestly, the team here are some of the friendliest and sweetest people I have met in London. I had just finished a smoothie in my own reusable cup and wanted my coffee in the same cup, which I know was a bit demanding, but the ladies behind the counter could not have been nicer. They even offered to wash it for me which I thought was incredibly kind. The prices are very reasonable for central London. An iced black at £3.50 is an absolute steal whether you bring your own cup or not. They also have a stamp card where after five stamps you get a free coffee which is a really great perk. It is definitely laptop friendly, with sockets all around, but the wifi is only available for hotel guests. The space is fairly limited so at most they can probably seat 20 to 25 people. Since they encourage laptop use I think it is good to be considerate about how long you stay, especially when it is busy. All in all I really liked this spot. It works equally well for a quick coffee stop, a catch up with friends, or a few hours spent on your book or laptop. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
