Lusting impulsively for bread on my way out of the country, all these bad reviews nearly kept me away from this place. Upon my fearful arrival, I expected a contralto - a sinister operatic villain - and I was ready to bellow in defense of my love for affordable focaccia should anyone try to keep us apart. I bought an ordinary sized focaccia for €1, which would be €2.70 at the Conad. She was accompanied by a medium-size focaccia tonda for €1.5, which by my estimate compare to an equivalent €3.25 I paid for mini versions at the Esselunga last week. The focaccia was baked this morning. It’s soft, I taste the olive oil, and it is perfectly salted. The focaccia tonda inferior, but this was made clear by the fact there were two piles of bread at difference prices, and I knowing chose the cheaper one for my packed lunch soup. In reality, this establishment is not as others have so dramatically described it. I imagine that the majority of happy customers are too busy shuffling on to write a review. I paid €2.50, by card, for what would be €5+ at a supermarket. The lady was polite and kind, and didn’t try to overcharge or upsell me. The fact is, this place is frequented by locals and railstaff. If you compare prices to the franchise stores nearby, I doubt you’ll find this place more expensive. In fact they have far more interesting offerings. Go on, give it a try. My only mistake was checking in to the Pisa mover with no way out, and regretting not buying more.
