I've been to Xi'an a few times with my partner and it's one of my favourite restaurants in Oxford. The atmosphere is perfectly pitched: usually lightly buzzing but not at all noisy, with tables well spaced, and a subdued, relaxing decor. The food isn't cheap, but it is fantastic; obviously prepared with great skill and care. Favourites include the tempura battered tofu in chopped garlic, the perfectly crispy, fresh spring rolls, the tasty aubergine dishes and the fried banana desert. The staff are all lovely, and the charming owner of the restaurant can be often seen running it with mastery and style.
