I had visted The Allotment before when it was in its previous premises and had an absolutely wonderful meal. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about booking again due to some negative reviews, but I'm so glad we came for lunch (26th August). Both the service and the food were absolutely fantastic. Service was friendly and, despite the fact there only seemed to be one member of staff at points, was fast and we got our food in a reasonable time. The food was absolutely delicious. We had the 5 tapas for £30 offer and chose bao buns, cauliflower wings, miso mushrooms, roasted cabbage and cashew salad. Every single dish was full of flavour and well cooked. The wine recommended was also exactly what we were after.

We went for a birthday lunch. The food was delicious as were the cocktails. However, nobody came to ask if we wanted more drinks, or if we needed water, or anything else. We were there 4 hours in total, it was a quiet midweek afternoon. We had to go and ask for the table to be cleared and for the dessert menu. In the whole 4 hours, we were only spoken to, to take the initial order. I was also surprised to find that the hand soap in the toilet is a brand who still test on animals. Quite a shame when the location and the food were great

The good: solid quality and fair value sharing portions/plates. It's is small joint furnished simply with a wood-and-hanging plants decor. Friendly staff the day I was there... The not-so-good: the range of the menu itself is quite limited. The thing to avoid: Unless you love bell-ringing... do NOT go on a Wednesday evening. It's located right next to the Cathedral and bell-ringing practice goes on for 2 solid hours between 7pm and 9pm. Its totally deafening... No-one can hear what anyone's saying... it's that loud. Avoid unless that's your trip. A solid 3 value stars, but not on a Wednesday evening. On a Wednesday evening, zero stars. You have been warned people!
