Monastery of El Escorial in Madrid
About
The Escorial Monastery was conceived as an indestructible stronghold of the Spanish monarchy, with space not only for royal quarters and receptions but also for God. To this day, the building remains an unofficial symbol of faith in a religion that should accompany every political step and decision made.
Interestingly, the monastery was built according to a special principle - all the best quality materials were sourced from various corners of Spain and brought to the site. The architectural complex is designed in a square shape in the style of the old Renaissance, including a church, palace, internal courtyards, and the monastery itself. Inside, tourists can see a large number of paintings, books, and even manuscripts.
