Our first visit to San Giorgio was a joy. Living in north Finchley we can be spoilt for choice for great places to eat, and this particular restaurant was no exception. The staff were welcoming and very attentive, and the Carbonara (a mainstream jazz standard of Italian food), was rich, creamy, and perfectly cooked. One of our party requested the grilled sardines starter as a main which was catered for - and as a sardines afficionado he was nearly brought to tears at the quality. Wine, both ready and white were served at the perfect temperature, and the dessert menu was varied. The food portions were generous, but not challenging, and my final test of trying off-menu grappa was rewarded with a smooth and enjoyable drink with a caramel/malt aftertaste. Slightly more expensive than our usual haunts, but highly recommended.
