Oh my goodness, what an amazing experience. This cosy restaurant shows how careful planning to give each table enough space for its occupants to feel comfortable can be achieved, despite it being quite small. Service is impeccable. Every dish arrived with an explanation of the amazing combination of flavours and textures which go beyond expectations into the realms of the sublime. It is like no other I have known. I chose the wine pairing - again, each pouring came with an explanation from a truly delightful sommelier - and it was excellent (except the orange wine, which I am yet to enjoy anywhere). Even the coffee was superb. This isn't a restaurant, it is a unique and wonderful experience. Grab a table if you can.

As a vegan, I’ve been looking forward to going to Plates for ages and was so excited when it became the first vegan restaurant in the U.K. to be awarded a Michelin star earlier this year. I was thrilled when one of my friends’ birthday gifts to me was lunch at Plates. Today was finally the day and it did not disappoint! The laminated sourdough bread with whipped spirulina butter is probably the best bread I have ever had. It had a croissant-like texture and, gosh, was just divine. The maitake mushroom dish with black bean mole was delicious! That and the bread were my two favourites, hands down. I have always had a sweet tooth so was excited about having dessert and both desserts were splendid. Generally, everything was delicious, so well thought out, and beautifully plated. The restaurant itself is a lovely space with gorgeous and tasteful interior design. Would definitely recommend!

Plates is an emotional experience. I've been vegan for 30 years, so this kind of dining was never available to me. I long ago accepted that food is simply fuel to function (& that's fine by me because of the moralness of being vegan) but this was totally different and like nothing before. For the first time ever, I understood how food and eating can be something special. At one point, I was a wee bit emotional reflecting on the care, attention and beauty of the experience. Everyone works together seamlessly to create wonder. Taste, texture, mouthfeel, wine pairing, service. All of it was amazing and well worth the wait. Thank you to everyone for giving me something I never expected to have access to.
