Finally, after >20 years, I've found somewhere in London that does sushi as good as you can get in Japan. I'd almost forgotten how good it can be. Actively amazing, and worth every penny. The photos (unsurprisingly) don't do it justice.

Absolutely incredible Omakase experience for 2 at Kikuchi. We were served way more food than we were expecting, so the smaller menu shown for the Okmakase experience doesn’t mean less food; prepare accordingly! Each course was made in front of us as we had counter seating (reserved ahead of time); the freshness and flavour of each one was far better than any sushi experience we have had before. You pay a premium for this, but the end result speaks for itself. We went for our 10 year anniversary meal and the staff added a little candle to our final refreshing course - this sounds like a very small gesture, however the kindness and enthusiasm the staff showed us was so incredibly thoughtful of them. The combination of the staff all speaking Japanese while working and the hospitality shown made us honestly feel like we were back in Tokyo as we had been last year. Overall, considering the price of other Omakase experiences in London (and in Tokyo), Kikuchi is some of the best value you can get for a high-end experience. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

Friday night dinner with the missus. Omakase by the counter was absolute perfection! 100% authentic Japanese experience with Mr Kikuchi himself behind the counter preparing the fish for us to enjoy throughout the menu. The omakase included an amouse bouche, a couple of starters, followed by sashimi, black cod for a main course, then 8 pieces of delicious authentic sushi served piece by piece, followed by a delicious omelette, then a soup, and finally a mochi dessert with fruits. We added an additional piece of fatty tuna to our experience, adding an extra £9 to the £130 omakase. Everything was super delicious. This is a refreshing place in London where so many places are offering Western "sushi" with mayonnaise and other non-Japanese ingredients ruining the experience. Friendly Japanese staff was making sure we had enough sake and wine in our glasses, and Mr Kikuchi was the absolute star of the evening, as he is a master with the knife and also super friendly. If you want to enjoy an authentic Japanese omakase in London, this is your place. I recommend booking counter seats. We will definitely be back soon.
