I was born in Malaysia but have been in the UK since I came to boarding school in 1981. For a very long time, there were very Malaysian restaurants but over last few years, there has been a steady explosion of Malaysian restaurants Citarasa (pronounced Chitarasa) is a relatively new Malaysian restaurant. It’s been decorated nicely inside and the menu has the usual street food dishes I visited on a Saturday lunchtime in the school holidays. It was quiet with staff outnumbering customers when I was there I chose the laksa, which is one of my favourite dishes and a bit of a referencing I use to compare Malaysian restaurants. Laksa is a noodle soup dish with a complex curry broth that lives or dies by its complexity and balance (yes, we Malaysians are discerning/fussy when it comes to food, especially when it comes to street food). The laksa was nice without being outstanding. I wanted to try other dishes but the restaurant wasn’t willing to be flexible in allowing me to order a small order of something like chicken rice to try - they only come as an individual dish. I’ve found other Malaysian places in London like Sentosa and MedSalleh more flexible in trying to accommodate their customers

Hi there, I recently visited Citarasa with my family for a second time and was absolutely delighted by the entire experience. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, with a perfect blend of elegance and comfort. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive especially the manger, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Every dish we ordered was a masterpiece –beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. The ingredients were fresh, and the balance of spices and seasoning was spot on. I especially loved then Nasi lemak and Hainanese Chicken Rice , which was rich in taste and truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a great dining experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!
