We are not fussy about wine and one of the cheapest bottles of red was a whopping £40. We are fussy about food. My companion who was not very hungry ordered caponata with focaccia, followed by mushroom arancini. I ordered carpaccio followed by the vongole. Portions are small. The caponata which should be sweet and sour was excessively sweet and lacking in tang. Our server kindly removed it from the bill when we complained about the level of sweetness. Focaccia was mediocre but served with good olive oil for dipping. I prefer an airy focaccia with big bubbles. This one had small bubbles, and no topping (ie rosemary or olives), and no crusty sprinkle of coarse salt embedded on top. It was flavourful due to being well seasoned with salt incorporated in the dough. My carpaccio was tasty but the meat was not completely raw, as expected. It was more like a very rare roast beef or a beef tataki. But the arugala salad and generous shavings of parmesan were great. Our mains were much better. My companions arancino was excellent, with a crispy outer crust. My vongole was redolent with garlic and herb oil. The clams were perfectly cooked and still tender. Dinner for two with wine was £92.
