I had really high hopes for Cottonrake Cafe having loved the bakery for as long as I’ve lived in Glasgow. However, it fell short for me. It’s incredibly busy which isn’t a problem, but we waited over 30 minutes for our coffees to arrive and nearly 50 minutes for our mains. A couple of us had the Mexican eggs which were tasty, but drowning in oil which was sickly after a few bites. I was left feeling that there are better places to eat in Glasgow both in terms of food and service (in terms of the time it takes to receive food/drinks). I also ordered a cake to take away and was given the wrong item but luckily checked the bag before leaving. I will say that the waitresses who served us were helpful and friendly and clearly doing the best they could in a busy environment.

A few weeks ago I ordered the most delicious soup I’ve tasted (I believe it was the corn and chipotle chilli oil). The sourdough bread on the side was phenomenal, and the portion size was very generous. I ordered a chai latte which was also great! I would return to Glasgow simply to revisit this lovely cafe.

All of the food was excellent. Lots of housemate stuff to try which I love. Staff were all friendly and polite, even when it was busy. Service was quick too.
