Church of the Carmelite Fathers of St. Catherine in Gdańsk
About
Standing at an impressive 249 feet, the Kościół Rektorski Ojców Karmelitów pw. św. Katarzyny, opened in 1227, is one of Gdańsk's cherished attractions. This celebrated church, featuring a stunning external facade, is an excellent destination for families and history buffs alike.
One of the major draws is the observation terrace atop the church tower, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Gdańsk, including landmarks like the nearby market hall. Inside the tower, a unique museum showcases a variety of clock mechanisms, providing a fascinating glimpse into horology.
Additionally, the church houses a permanent exhibition of clocks and is home to the Bellringer Confraternity, who manually ring the church bells-a truly mesmerizing experience to behold. Notably, this site holds historical significance as the final resting place of Jan Heweliusz.
Visitors are highly recommended to explore both the interior museum and make the climb to the viewing terrace for an unforgettable visit steeped in history and scenic beauty. Remember, the entrance to the tower is conveniently located to the right of the main portal.

This church is nice; glad we stopped in. The space inside is beautiful in that quiet, slightly raw kind of way. You can really feel the history in the walls, especially knowing it’s one of the oldest churches in Gdańsk. One of our favorite parts was Zejście do Krypty—a small crypt exhibit downstairs. It's not that big, but really atmospheric and gives a kind of reverent, haunting glimpse into the past. Definitely a peaceful stop, even in the middle of a busy sightseeing day.

Iglesia de ladrillo, típica de la arquitectura polaca. Muy interesante
